There are various ways a LiFi system could be provided with a backhaul connection to provide wireless LiFi communications.

Currently, power over Ethernet (POE) is the optimal solution for driving the network backhaul and therefore the preferred option for new installations. Power line communications (PLC) is the preferred option for retrofit installations. PLC can be used for by sharing the available capacity between lamps attached to any given ring main. pureLiFi demonstrated a PLC system at the 2022 Mobile World Congress using our LiFi@Home system.

One of the benefits of a pureLiFi system is that pureLiFi uses 802.11bb protocols which allows for seamless integration of LiFi into an existing WiFi network. This allows for very low complexity.
